As you probably know Puerta Vallarta is situated on the
same parallel as the Hawaiian Islands. It is 2300 square
kilometers, has a population of 250,000, an average of
300 sunny days and 82 degrees Fahrenheit temperature.
Mismaloya is the sight where they filmed the Ava Gardner
movie "The Night of the Iguana".
Money: The currency used in Puerta Vallarte is the peso.
One Cdn.$ = (Approx.) 5.7 Pesos. There is a money exchange
at the airport in P.V. and there are many places in town.
The kiosk across the street from the Tourist Info office
in the main plaza in town usually has good rates. The
Hotel next door to our condo will exchange dollars for
pesos but their rate is usually less favourable. You cannot
exchange money at the Condo. It is suggested that you
take around six hundred pesos down with you to cover your
expenses that first day.
The taxi drive from the airport to the condo is approximately
150-200 pesos (sometimes negotiable). Ask at the Taxi
stand at the airport if anyone speaks English, this certainly
can be of help on your first trip. Most taxi drivers will
take you to the Super Mercado GR (the main grocery store)
on the way in. This should be established before you leave
the airport and a price arrived at. The stop will be negotiated
into the price. Re tipping... tip drivers for extra help
or service otherwise the price you agree upon should be
O.K. Make sure you are taken to the CONDOMINIUM de Mismaloya
not to be confused with the Hotel of the same name around
the corner.
When you arrive at the Condominio de Mismaloya you will
be welcomed by our friendly reception staff. If, in the
event your room is not yet ready they will watch your
luggage. We always have bathing
suits or shorts in our carry on luggage. There are washrooms
at the pool on level one where you can change and relax.
There is also a little restaurant "Maria Bonita's"
where you can have a snack while you wait. This restaurant
is a cash only establishment as are all of the restaurants
associated with the hotel next door. At the hotel they
always ask for your room number so you just tell them
you are not staying at the hotel and therefore are using
cash. Restaurants affiliated with the hotel are Houston's,
Night of the Iguana, and the restaurants in the hotel
itself. There is also a little store no the main floor
of the hotel where (for cash) you can buy juice, milk,
bread, etc. Their prices are a little higher than the
grocery store in town.
At the Condo we have 25 personnel on the site all through
the year which gives you an idea of the quality our can
expect. Since we have year-round personnel we are interested
in renting during our summer also. Summer temperatures
are only slightly higher than winter and the days are
much longer of course.
Transportation via taxi to and from downtown is approximately
60 pesos. However, the local bus runs right in front of
the condo and the cost to town is (at present) 3 pesos.
The Condominium Resort is compiled of three buildings
numbered 7, 6 and 5. There are separate front gates for
all the buildings however building 5 is where the reception
desk is. When you check in you are escorted to your room
where everything will be in order, clean with the air
conditioning on for your initial comfort. There are two
air conditioning controls - one in the bedroom and the
other in the living area. The condo also has three ceiling
fans for those who enjoy natural air conditioning. There
is always a breeze off of the ocean and many guests enjoy
all of their meals on the private balconies. We ask that
you make sure the air conditioning, lights, television,
etc. are turned off when you are away from the unit.
